this one isn’t spam

This site was hacked a few hours ago via a different user’s account. Sorry if you received any (11) emails/tweets about new spammy posts. I restored yesterday’s backup, generated new security keys, and changed some permissions so it should be fixed now.

Edit 1, 2016-01-14: Then two more snuck through somehow. This is weird. I disabled subscriber emails, updated all plugins, and generated new security keys. Weird. I’ll keep monitoring and might just re-install WordPress.

Edit 2, 2016-01-15: 3 more posts were generated, 2 from a different user and one from my user account. Don’t want to deal with this. Pulled everything from the server and started with a fresh WordPress install. Looked at the 391MB access log and noticed a lot of changes to my xmlrpc.php file on 2016-01-11. Weird. Seems like a brute force attack. Changed all passwords and security keys. Picked a new theme too because why not.

(Hello & good morning)

I will be participating in February Album Writing Month again this year. The goal is 14.5 songs in the 29 days of February (it’s a leap year). It’ll be my 8th time. I am looking forward to it.

2016 is shaping up to be an exciting year full of many new things.

On Tuesday night (2016-01-12) we played a show at the Newark Bike Project with The Promise is Hope and Shane Palko. TPIH is from Massachusetts and they’re a really wonderful duo. Shane was celebrating a birthday and the end of his east coast tour and will be departing for his Asia & Australia tour soon. It was a fun night filled with bagels and a mini snowstorm and many friends and family. I am glad to be a part of this community.

just ten minutes

Tuesday night I played at the new World Cafe Live at the Queen‘s first ever open mic in Wilmington. It was pretty amazing. They have “Queen’s Golden Crown” Ale brewed specially for them by Dogfish Head. Omnom

World Cafe Live

Anyway, I will give lots of details because I am bored right now. I drove to Wilmington in the rain. I hate rain and hate city driving. I hate whining too. When I got inside at 6:40, I was #13 on “the list.” Signups started at 6:30. That is actually a good thing because it means other musicians will be playing before me and people will be there to see them do better and worse and have something to compare me to. The theater itself is gorgeous. Lots of restoration and very nice new everything. I was nervous going to a bar for the first time without knowing someone there and luckily I saw Jacopo sitting at a table. He is an extremely talented Italian that Em and I met sometime in the past few months. He plays classical guitar and kazoo and just came to Delaware from San Francisco. We sat together and talked and watched the other musicians the whole night. Lots of fun. Here is him performing with a disaparating busboy walking by:

Jacopo!

They have a very professional setup with full lighting and monitors and everything was clean and new and fancy and nice people were there to see music. WCL supplies the drumset and keyboard too for bands. The limit was a 10-minute set. This was difficult for most people for some reason because they would either play for 7 minutes and end early, or play for 15 minutes and apologize. I figured out three songs to play from Grow, and shortened a few sections so that I knew I would fit inside of 10 minutes. I brought up my phone as a timer and played for 9:47. I got to lead the first ever open-mic singalong there yay and there were very friendly people who sang along and shouted and stood and swayed.

Afterwards I gave our CD and press kit to the program director and asked her what she thought and she gave me lots of compliments that made my entire year worth it and then she asked what I do so I told her I am an engineering student. Then she said, “Wow, most electrical engineers are strange and weird but you seem pretty normal.”

…I guess I’ll take that as a compliment to how well I can fool people ^_^

Overall, very fun night. I would recommend checking out the Queen. She is one fine lady.

Running sound and worship for the UD InterVarsity retreat this weekend. Can’t wait. Rain is expected but right now the weather is gorgeous yay

[FAWM-Blog] Day 24

There comes a point where you have part of a song done for two weeks and you’re sick of it and you hate it but you might as well finish it since there are only four more days left in February. The end of this is what a mandolin sounds like through a wah, delay, and two distortion pedals (if you were wondering). Let me know what you think (:

[FAWM-Blog] Day 17

Happy birthday to my brother Ben! We’re going up to World Cafe Live tonight to see The Civil Wars ^.^

Decided to try “anaphora,” which is this week’s FAWM challenge. Wrote this and recorded it between class and work…in about an hour total. Not sure where in my crazy brain it came from… Let me know what you think yay.

Also made this last night for my bro:

My power supply died on my main pc, so I recorded that video with only my camera, and recorded Quakertowne with an old standalone digital field recorded yay I hate technology.
